Default Acorn...would you edit a natural flaw?

The white spot on the acorn really was there. I even tried to scrape it off with my fingernail. I like the pic, but my eyes keep seeing the white spot as a flaw that needs editing.

So...do you guys edit out things that were really there, or not?

Here's a few more pics if you'd like to critique. I've never posted pics anywhere before, so critique all you want!

Observation #1 is that all the pictures are too big - 600px maximum along the longest edge, please.

As far as the content goes, I think the third is the best picture - the others have the subject small and central while, in that one, the branch is large and creates a strong diagonal across the frame.

Regarding the choice of whether or not to edit out the flaw, it is up to you. Personally, I would rather use the camera to observe what I saw (if shooting to capture nature rather than needing an acorn for other purposes), although I might try to find an alternative angle or just a different acorn.

I would.
You aren't editing nature. Would you use the healing brush on a mole? Clone out a tattoo?
No one will know, heal it out! LOL
Nice pix by the way

Hi, lynette3!
And now? Happy?

Let me also say that Mr. Wulf said it right.

lynette3,

All of the Visual Arts are meant to communicate through imagery. What your ultimate message/purpose is, will determine your choice of edit/no edit. If I miss seeing the acorn because of one little distracting spot, what communication took place? On ocassion, though, I have chosen a subject because of its flaw(s).

I go by the squint test, also: if it's a distraction, it goes, especially background surroundings.

It's a personal choice. I don't edit out flaws because if I shoot something with a flaw, I found it interesting. If a flaw in something does bother me, I find another angle/perspective to shoot from.

The white spot doesn't bother me, but I prefer the second shot.

I didn't really mind the flawed acorn shot. I preferred the second shot with the two acorns a lot more though. I probably would have just found another single acorn to shoot if it bothered me at all.
