Default Rain catcher

I took this this afternoon. I don't think it's a great shot but for some reason I keep going back to look at it. I don't have a tripod yet and am really yearning to get a 50mm soon.

I *do* think it's a great shot. I think if that leaf didn't cut through the middle of the frame, the leaves in the background would be distracting...but the way you've framed it...it looks great! Congrats! Have you tried pumping up the green a bit to make it pop a bit more?

I did just that and this is what I got...you may prefer the muted version...eitehr way an enjoyable picture.

This is a very good shot. I like how you've played with the DoF.

If I were to critique, I would say that composition is an issue. When I look at the photo, my eye goes straight to the water droplet in the center of the image, which is sort of stagnant. I think composing it so that the focus adheres to the rule of thirds, the shot would pop out more.

I do think it's a great capture though, so much so that I want to steal the idea :x

Miss Red,

Closeups are like that, the fascination of having captured a larger-than-life image. The background being a repeat of subject is good to leave as you have, just enough focus to show this is a group of water-spotted leaf blades.

If you want to practice edit skills, the subject would be easy to select around, and then darken the background just enough to show the four top-edge drops a little more, and make the focussed area prominent. You could crop top and right without losing any quality, making subject even larger. Hope you continue to enjoy it, and find many more such views.

Thank you all for your comments and ideas. And Robin I really like the popped green you edited in it. Everything looks just a little more vibrant.

I will see what I can play around with and also keep the suggestions in mind for future captures. I had fun capturing a few different images yesterday with 'drops' as the theme.
