Default cat

the other day i was taking pictures of my girlfriend's cat and this one i liked even though its slightly blury... it wasnt easy getting good pics of the cat as he likes to turn his head the exact moment i try and take a picture

this one is another i liked too

the things i know is the second could be more clear (i kinda like the blur on the first) and lighting could be better (flash is not an option since it makes his eyes look overexposed)

any other suggestions for either

If you have a choice of background different from these, it'd be less distracting. Assuming this is someone else's home, you could ask if you can replace one of their lamp bulbs with a strong daylight/photo bulb (BYO) to give much better everything to the cat. Smaller pupils=bigger iris.

Personal preference: either LOTS of blur, or none at all. Nice Kitty.

I took your advice of no blur/lots of blur and cropped it
what do you think?

Of the two, this one has more grab. I was thinking when you take the next photo, that's the time to ask 'Blur or clear?' You showed another way that sort of rescues the original. If you saturated the eyes a little, brightened some, maybe even sharpened. Liking the background more. Thanks for the creative post.

It's quite difficult to see the black cat on the black background.

Having photographed my partner's cats too, I can relate to the problems!! Gorgeous feline!

You have done a good job for what you had to work with. Hard to take a picture of a black cat with a black background.
