Default Terrapin

Found this guy crossing an old logging road on my place. I had to kidnap him just long enough to go get my camera and take a few shots!

I did increase the contrast a tad on the terrapin itself, but for some reason, the magic wand in photoshop would not select the entire shell without selecting the foilage in the background, and the increase in contrast actually made that part of the image look bad even though it improved the look of the shell. Not sure what I could do about that. Fire away guys! Thanks for looking.

Specs:
f/2.8
1/30 sec
ISO 100
Sigma 105mm Prime Macro

OK to edit and repost my shots on DPS forum.

I like the way he is looking into the camera. Unfortunately shooting at f/2.8 caused much of his shell to go soft (unless that is what you were trying to do.) I would pull that distracting blade of grass next time you are faced with a shot like this. Thanks for sharing this with us.

You don't want the magic wand for a job like this - the shell matches too closely with the background with both having a similar combination of broken patches of colour. Instead, it is a job for a layer mask, using white to let the higher contrast version shine through, black to hide it and shades of grey to blend between the two.
