Default Street fruits

In a Sunday afternoon, near the bus terminus, there are hundreds of vendors selling their wares. A road-side fruit seller grabbed my attention, on a cane platform, he had displayed the colourful fruits on a banana leaf. He had also kept a few small bowls of chopped fruits on top (the bowls made of leaves of 'saal'). The partially distracted background of the fruit seller had to be blurred in photoshop as my DOF was pretty high.

Nice! Like the colours. I would have probably cropped out the top portion of the picture, though.

Nice work and a good eye for a shot off the street. Thanks for pointing out the composition of the bowls. You also have an excellent area for an abstract just by moving in and cropping some of the fruit below the two bowls. The shapes and colors are great.

I like the composition as it is. It places the interesting bowls of fruit right along one of the lines of thirds. Good job blurring the vendor in PP.

I like the shot (although, in an ideal world, perhaps you would have been able to move the elements cluttering the bottom right corner).

However, I wonder why you didn't chose a wider aperture when shooting? That would have given you a naturally shallower depth of field and, by letting more light in, allowed a faster shutter speed. You could have had a touch more light in the shot (it is a touch on the dull side, although post processing should easily fix that) while getting a sharper picture (at present it is a bit soft and I wonder if there was a hint of camera shake?).

Wulf, there were a lot of fruits, I wanted to keep all of that in focus, so I chose a small aperture. My 55-200 mm DX zoom is very light, so I did not think of camera shake, I will take the original 3000x2000 pixel 300 dpi photograph and see if there is any shake. You are right, the lower right is cluttered.
Thanks for the advice, I will keep it in mind.

I will surely do some innovative cropping with the bowls, thanks clockdoc for giving me a different perspective.

How far were you from the subject? If you look at Depth of Field calculators, you will see that, as well as the focal point there is a zone of acceptable sharpness on either side, which grows with narrower aperture and / or greater distance from the subject.

It might be worth looking up some figures to get ideas for what options you have on a future trip. Perhaps you could post a copy of the original without the post-processing blur?

Wulf
