Default Postcard from Glasgow

I feel like I am a couple of steps from being a semi-professional photographer.

Ok, back to reality lol. How do you like/dislike it?

Nice subject, like the green trees and the tower jutting up through them.

The shot is overexposed for my taste, lots of clipped whites in the clouds. If you have bracketed shots this is a good candidate for HDR.

If you have another go at the original composition I would recommend either a graduated ND filter to cut the light in the top half, or at least a polarizer to decrease the glare in the upper portion. A polarizer would also have the benefit of decreasing the reflections off the leaves, which would make the colors look richer. A final point, which you can fix by cropping, is that the horizon is not at a "rule of thirds" line in the composition. I would crop the top portion of the photo and have 2/3 green trees with 1/3 sky. Thanks for sharing!

Hi newbie, thanks for your comment and suggestions.

The problem is, when taking photograph, i usually forget all about the stuff i have read (exposure bracketing, rule of third etc.)

I cropped the top portion as you suggested and also adjusted the highlights recovery slider in Lightroom.
Here is the resulting image:

Nice shot! That recovery slider is great, isn't it? Nice color and composition. I don't think it would have been as good without that purple bush framing it on the right. Thanks!

It comes to the rescue. A great feature together with the clarity and vibrance sliders.

Thanks!

Recovery slider? Hmmm, I may have to check out Lightroom. Nice revision, I like it a lot!
