I just stepped up to a SLR and in my mind the photos are so much greater. It might be the available lenses as much as the camara. How does it look to you? Image is straight out of the camera.

Nikon D70, ISO200, 12mm, f/16, 1/400sec.

Are you shooting with the Nikor 12-24mm? If so, I'm jealous! Nice use of the wide angle to emphasize perspective. I really like the composition. My personal taste is to saturate the colors a little more than this (although I'm often accused of oversaturating my colors), and if you're being picky you could rotate the photo a little counterclockwise to straighten the horizon. Excellent work, and thanks for sharing with us!

Nikon I wish, I cheaped out with the Tokina 12-24 f/4. I'm happy it doesn't show in the picture.

Not trying to change the subject from your picture, but do you like the Tokina? I've been considering it lately because it gets such wonderful reviews. Most places I've read are hard pressed to notice much difference at all from the Nikon. It's one of the few third party lenses I've found that seems that way.

At first I thought it was a painting. I really like the perspective, created by the 12mm lens. Like newbie, I'm jealous. I'll have to see if Tokina do an Alpha mount.

They Don't!

I love the Tokina it is everything I hoped it would be. I took Ken Rockwell's advice and went for the half the Nikon priced lens. Ken had tested four lenses Nikon, Sigma, Tamaron and Tokina and found no noticable differences and recommended the Tokina for it's price.
I am looking forward to buying a longer zoom and the Nikon prices are a little daunting, maybe there is a good second party lense out there waiting.

I've read Ken's review also, and I'm glad to hear that someone in the real world likes the Tokina. I've been thinking about getting the Tokina 12-24 vs the Nikon 10.5 Fisheye (two very different lenses, I know). Now, I just need the money . . .

Anyway, your picture has inspired me to pursue ultra-wide angle, and thanks again for sharing. Hope to see more!
