Question Ate a cow

At the Givskud zoo I took this lion that just had eaten a cow (or a at least a part of the cow). We were driving through the lion area in the zoo just after they had their cow feast - and there one of them where lying near the road and looking content. I took the picture out my car window with aperture f/3.5, exposure bias -2/3 EV, ISO 100 and a shutter speed of 1/160s. I did not crop this picture - the lion was very close (and I did zoom a lot).

What do you think - did I go to close (I mean regarding the picture - not my security)?

Any other comments?

A full lion

It looks contented as well, maybe you could have gotten closer as it was full

Nice shot, I like it, the colors and tones are great all in sharp focus.

At f/3.5 and a 72mm focal length, you have held excellent depth of field and sharpness. What post work did you do in Picasa? Size looks OK but if you compared other croppings you may find one you like better. Try flipping the image left-to-right and see if it holds your eye more on the subject. I read up from the bottom to his eye and then rather quickly across to the right and out the frame. However, I still like the overall shot and I think you did well with this zoo shot.

Hi Clockdoc
The 72mm focal length on my powershot s3is is 12x zoom and that compares to aprox. 450mm on a full frame camera - and to get a good DOF with my camera - I need a lot of zoom..

And regarding the editing - yes - I just "felt lucky" in Picasa - I'm a bit lazy.

I tried to flip the beast - and it looks surprisingly different. As you say it must be the way you read it the picture that gives a different view. Now I have to flip all my images

GaryMoffat and Clockdoc - thanx for the comments

Lovely! I prefer the flipped one, actually.

Yeah, I like the flipped better as well. My eye naturally goes from lower left to upper right, which fits better with the flipped version.

Default nice flip

Funny how the brain works...I liked the flipped shot so much more. Also, I saw your FLICKR shots and especially liked the lion on the rock. Its almost comical.
