Default Daughter in Dress (Black and White)

I took this with my new Canon Rebel XTi and 50mm f1.8 lens. I lost the information to a corrupted card - but was able to recover it with some software from Lexar.

I took the shot in B/W mode with yellow filter applied in camera. The sharpness setting was cranked up and the contrast was turned up a bit too. I then fine tuned it in Picasa.

Thoughts?

Nice work! It appears a little dark on my monitor however, it reminds me of the tone of prints we used to get many years ago when film was dropped off at the corner drug store for processing. It has a more "realistic" black and white look than some tones created with today's software.
When you say you shot it in black and white with the yellow filter applied in the camera, is this their equivalent to shooting the image on black and white film with the yellow filter? Picasa2's Filter Effects has a similar result when you process your color original through it. Thanks for sharing this with us.

I'm glad you recovered it - this is a great portrait shot.

The background blur suggests a sense of motion. Were you panning as you daughter turned or was this just a fortunate illusion from the optics?

Thanks! It's a combination of low f-stop, her spinning around, and me trying to keep up. She's got a lot of energy! :-)

That's supposedly the idea. The camera shoots in black and white mode and interprets what the image would look like with a yellow filter. So far I like the results. I can do other color filters as well, but for people I've like the yellow filter for skin tones.
