I couldn't get any better detail in the sky...not that there was much more detail to get...it was a pretty even light grey.

nice straight horizon, nice greens, that sky...there just isn't much there... I pulled down your largest version from flickr and played about - no sky... nada!... was as if it had been.. stolen!...
You could try metering for the sky and metering for the trees and meeting somewhere in the middle... or poppin two shots together in a post processing app... (though, not sure whether you're into that.. I know i'm not at the moment)

I really like the shot, but hate the title
. I just made it through the hottest August on record in GA and a miserable summer. I want to enjoy fall before thinking about winter!I think this shot has some nice pop. The overcast sky, in my opinion, gives nice contrast to the bright trees. I like the darker colored trees in the background as well.

You're right about there being no sky! I was playing with it and tried increasing the saturation of the colors. If you make the bright greens and yellows pop more you'll draw the eye to the trees instead of the lack of sky. Otherwise I really like this shot.
