I have been at Givskud zoo (Denmark) - where I saw some nice parrots. I tried to get some good pictures of them. I have already posted the angry parrot picture
- and this picture was taken under the same conditions - only the background went all black on because of great distance to a dark background. (anyone: is it because of the wide aperture that the camera only shows black - even though that the background was not black - just darkish).I would appreciate comments on the shoot? Especially comments about the composition (the large black background) - should I crop it or? It does not follow the rule of third - but I liked the empty space… I used an aperture of f/3.5 - mainly because of the wires of the cage. The ISO setting was 100 and an exposure bias of -2/3EV. The shutter speed was 1/500s. Because of the fast shutter speed - I did not use my tripod!

Normally I don't like zoo pictures. They always remind me that the animal is caged... You've done a good job of keeping that out of yours though. So I have to commend you on that. It's a nice photo.
I think I'd keep the black too. As Peeper said it gives him someplace to look. I'm guessing your background went black because in not over exposing the parrot, you've under exposed the background. But that's just a layman's guess. |

wonderful shot! I am a parrot gal, having raised and trained a lot of them myself.
