Heres an attempt to get creative. I couldn't get the window on the right in order to balance the photo because there was a bunch of pipes and railings there that I couldn't get rid of. can any one think of any way to salvage this.

You have quite a bit going on here with no real subject to catch one's eye. I am drawn through the archway but after that my eye wanders. Overall the image appears a little hot on my monitor. I suspect you had a better image in your mind's eye that just wasn't there to capture with the camera. These is probably some potential in the texture of the rocky wall along with some play on shadows.

What about taking the picture from the other side of the wall? The pipes are probably on the inside and not out there. But I also agree with clockdoc that the picture is hot so you should try shooting again when the sun is lower in the sky (early morning or late evening)

Good points. The outside would work as well. I got too wrapped up in the images from the inside. It was shot at midday in the middle of summer. A evening or morning shot would be better if I can come up with an excuse to spend a night there (I can see a fall fishing trip becoming a definate necessity). It is about 6 hours from where I live and has a blue ribbon trout stream next to it.

Was the sky blue?... what about a crop down the left hand side of the door frame, removing everything to the left and just above the door. keep the doorway and the window on the right, sort out the horizon and maybe pull the blacks up a little so that they contrast against the blue sky and green(?) trees through the door?.. I was going to tag it on flickR.. but alas, you have tags off... just thinkin' out loud... that trout stream sounds nice... s

I will see if I can remidy the tag issue. The trout stream is very very nice. Crisp clean air, cold clear water, gorgeous colours, in the fish too, Rainbows. Now I can't quit thinking about it.
