Peppers Lake Trail

This is an incredibly beautiful and haunting spot on one of the trails I hike on. I thought I would try to capture it but I can't. the day was over cast so maybe that affected it. The cause was more likely my lack of experience with landscapes and photography in general. Any pointers?
Thanks

Hi. Except for the image appearing a little dark on my monitor, I think you have done an admirable job with this one. What post processing work did you do on it? Have you tried shooting some shots that could be stitched into a panoramic shot using software such as Autostitch? Thanks for sharing this with us.

All I have done so far is to boost up the contrast a little. I could brighten up the shot a little as well. I have not tried panoramic shots yet. Thanks

I think you did a good job capturing the beauty of this scene. I love the mountains in the background with the low clouds in the sky.

I'm not sure if it's what you're talking about, but I've noticed that with some of the more beautiful nature scenes, I have a hard time capturing the "feeling" of the place. I can stand there and see the visual beauty, but there is a certain feeling you get as well. When I look back at my pictures, they don't have that same impact and I don't know if it's even possible to catch that on film (err, in pixels?).

i think you did a fine job on the landscape.....and that the overcast day probably worked to your benefit....i usually blow out the sky on a shot like this....

i do think that a little editing is in order to bring out some of the detail in the shadows.....possibly, that might give you some of that "feel" you're looking for.....

i tried this on your shot and it worked for me....i'll post it if you like....

i'm not sure if i helped or hurt this shot....

about all i did was tweak the levels which added contrast and color to an already beautiful shot....oh, and that slight vignette to focus the eye.....

Thanks Peeperita. I like it. It a lot more vibrant. The trail leads back to an alpine lake nestled in the montains you can see in the back ground, its a great day hike. I think the feeling I get from this place may be because of the whole hike. I may have to try doing a series of photos to see if I can get the mood, I am not sure if I can do that but it would be fun trying. I am going to have to go back in there at first snow fall and see if I can catch the mood of this place.
