Default I wanted to Try!!!!

I love the way color has been isolated in some of the shots. So I decided that I would take my favorite subject (my daughter) and have a go at it. I edited this image using photoshop.

Is there another way without using Photoshop? What do you think about the picture? Be Kind.

I realize this was a "grab" shot and you probably didn't have time to fiddle with flash or a reflector of any kind. Tell us a little more about the lighting. The broad hot area on her forehead tends to lead one's eye away from her expression, which is in shadow. Nice technique on the isolated color technique. Sorry I can't be of any further help with the Photoshop processes.

Thanks

Definitely a grab shot. For some reason, I can't my daughter to sit still longer enough for me to take anything but grab shots. No special lightning all taken with a flash. I was really trying to test the post processing color isolation.

I think the colour thing works really well to focus my attention on the expression. Nicely framed as well. A great grab shot.

Alot of shots i see or have done are not the right type of shot for a desaturated background but this one works great I think. I agree about the actual shot but for a subject and the technique I give two thumbs up! And the expression on her face is fabulous!
Shes adorable and given that with a face like that i bet she's a handful!

Can you partially desaturate reality? lol Ok, kidding aside, I don't really know of any other way, although I think that picnik might have a feature that tries to do something similar (though you can't make such a precise selection)... It's called Focal B&W.

Also, there's a really easy way to fix the area on the forehead that is significantly lighter. Select the light area using the magic wand in photoshop, go a little bit outside it so you get everything. Then make a new layer, use the eye-dropper brush to match the general colour of the skin, and fill in the selection in the new layer using that colour. Now set the layer to "Color" and it should make the skin look more natural. It really does help.
