Another shot as I learn the finer points of my 'Nifty Fifty.' This one views best large, alas, and might be a little granier than it should be... though the more I look at it, the more I think in this color it almost works. I'm curious what others think, though.

I think I could singe eyebrows from a long view of this. You have the variation in the white area of the flame! The roughness of the brickwork is almost palpable. The ingredients on the (pizza?) are discernible.

That's it . . . I have to buy a new camera and get out more. Said it before, your work inspires. Thank you, RP

The nifty fifty is one of the best purchases you can make if you have a Canon, IMHO. Inexpensive, fairly sharp, and more versatile than you would think.
Your shot is a bit noisey, but you did well with the lighting. Do you have any exif info?

Yeah, I'm pondering whether the noise-grain adds something to the shot (it grew on me after I looked at it for a bit), or whether I should run it through NoiseNinja. I keep going back and forth on that one!

As for the EXIF data, it should be viewable from the Flickr page, but:

50mm, f/2.5, shutter speed 1/320, ISO 800.

Unfortunately, with people moving back and forth in front of the oven all the time, and no real opportunity to take up a better position, I had to go higher ISO and faster shutter speed; I would've preferred 1/250 and ISO 400 or so, but I just couldn't get the condition to snag it.

The f/2.5 was deliberately picked so that I could focus inside the oven and have the protruding handle end of the 'pizza shovel' (whatever the giant spatula is called) soft-focused. And the large aperture didn't hurt for light anyway!
