Orange Trumpet 1

What do you think?

(Apart from the dust smudges through the background . . . =D)

I liked the contrast between the orange and the green, but was wondering if anything could be done to improve!

Hi and welcome to the group. You can relax and exhale now. 8-) It would help me gratly if, on future posts, you could add some EXIF data such as camera/lens used, ISO, shutter speed and f/stop. I think you have a good exposure with nice tonal range and sharpness. As a macro we all experience the limited depth of field problem. Cropping is a bit generous as I feel you could lose some of the dark area on the right. Just for fun, try flipping the image from left to right and see if it keeps your eye in the frame a little longer. As shown you read into the image from left to right and are moved out of the frame quickly.

drrlam,

Welcome to the forum.

I like this shot nice colors and good composition.

Would be more appealing if those lower petals also in focus. IMO a diagonal orientation and little crop at right would be more appealing.

I shot the same flower some time ago, here is mine... Yours is better than mine, but I am just curious to know the name of that flower.

I crawled through some other shots of yours in flickr. Some nice shots there.

drrlam, welcome.

I like the shot!! The sharpness is just right, and I love the colour. Just that there is a bit too much black space on the right side.

Default Thank you!

You're all very kind.
I'm sorry I didn't include the EXif data, I think it got lost in translation.
The basics are Canon EOS 350D, Canon 100mm @ f/2.8, 800 ISO @ 1/250, with a -1/3 EV.

I agree with flipping the image horizontally - I've done it at home and it does make for a stronger image. I haven't cropped the photo, that's just my composition i guess =D.

The plant is called Pyrostegia venusta, or "Flaming Trumpet". Here is a link.

Once again, thank you for your warm welcome to this great forum!
