great expression on your ape.....

it's a good shot over all....but, i would like to see you deal with the bluish shadows and the cropping....either off the top or the bottom.....

Thanks, the bluish shadow I think is the shadow on the tree, right? I don't see any blue shadow on the minkey ?

Also, I left the crop this way to leave the monkey (subject) at the proper thirds rule and to show DOF/bokeh.

I agree with Peeper on the crop. I think it would be a stronger composition if you took out the bright sunlit background along the top. It looks like everything else was in shade and my eye gets drawn to these bright parts.

I really like the monkey and his expression. Is the color of his face true to how it was in person? I've seen a few of these guys in zoo's and whatnot and the red usually seems a more saturated than what it is here. Maybe if you eliminate the blue cast to the wood, you could bump up the red a little?

Nice capture. I looked at your other shots on Flickr. You have a good eye and have somevery nice images from the zoo. Have you offered them to the zoo for their publications? I also read your thoughts about why you cropped it the way you did, however, IMHO there is a bit too much of the out of focus tree to the right. Cropping it into a vertical by taking some off both sides would help make it a stronger image.

It is a nice capture but to me it seems that you're focused on the branch in front of the monkey instead of the monkey itself. One of those rules (you know what those are) is that the eyes should be in focus. To me it looks like they're not.

Thanks for the replies. I did not see alot of the things mentioned, and that's the nice part about posting it here and it helps immensely.

I will have to reduce the blue tint on the branches and try the different crop and clone that rope.

The tree limb to the front probably is more focussed than the monkey,I may even try the blur tool on that limb.

I'll certainly look into the zoo publications, that'll be cool.

Thanks for all your wonderful suggestions.

P.S: the pink on the face was very similar to what I saw, but I agree that I've seen some monkey's with the bright red skin, but these species did'nt have that?
