Default The Lone Berry

This is one of the very first shots I ever took with this camera. And it was definitely my first attempt in playing with Photoshop. I was hoping you could comment on the composition, contrast, coloring, etc.

I like it a lot. The bright red of the berry draws me in and then the textures catch my attention. The berry is so smooth, the leaves look like they're made of wax, and then the stick is rough and bumpy. Good job!

I like the simplicity of the shot which, for me at least, works best with selective coloring. I think you did a good job with your first attempt, too. However, if the berry wasn't so centered, the composition would be better.

Saralonde,

I agree on the composition but I've been having trouble picking one that I like. I'm going to go back to the original this week and see what other crops I can come up with. I'm thinking of placing the berry in the bottom right third of the shot... would that work?

Everyone else, thanks for the comments!!

Yeah, I think cropping off some of the empty space on the bottom and right leaving the berry in the bottom right third would work well.

The focus looks a little off. On these types of shots the focus and DOF have to be dead-on. Also, you might try a stronger BW conversion on the background. Here's something similar I did:
