Default Anna

Silkeborg sep 2007-67-Edit-3

Decreased the exposure first to get some detail in the clouds above. Afterwards I edited it in PS to highlight the person (didn't have enough fill flash to begin with). Used a feathered mask to select the person and then increased the exposure for that selection. Let me hear some thoughts please .

I like the effect - but the exposure on the person is a little low (IMO.)

The tree on the right is a bit distracting - recomposing the shot with only the sky as the backdrop (and a completed halo around her head) would be a bit better imo.

see this post for more info about lighting to overpower / balance ambient light.

Revald,

The goal? For a portrait, the clouds nearly win the competition for attention. For a landscape, without a very distinct specific subject, great cloud presence is a bonus and welcome. It does make this difficult to appreciate Anna. Her expression is well shot and without the background would be really pleasant.

this looks like it was a fun experiment....

if you feel like reshooting you can follow some of the ideas given above.....ie..placement of the sun......a friendlier sky.....and while you're at it.... mayber a better positioning of the trees in the background.....

repost if you decide to shoot it again.....

To focus on Anna, you need to lighten the image. The tree can be removed and you could add some directional light. All do-able in PS...

Thanks for the info all. I agree that the tree is quite distracting and the fact that she is a bit underexposed is quite true (as stated I didn't have any proper fill flash to begin with). I'm not overly eager to re-edit it again in PS as the main goal was not to create an artificial image to begin with (but thanks for the re-edited photo and the suggestion though :-)) Perhaps I can get a chance to recompose sometime soon.

Thanks again
