Default Death in a Venus trap

I took this picture of a fly in a Venus trap with my canon powershot s3is. The fly was already dead and the Venus trap was opened again. I used a piece of paper as background and got approx. 1 cm from the fly and took the picture. It was quite easy to get a the composition like I wanted it - because dead flies and plants are easy models - they don’t move much around!

Aperture f/3.2, ISO 100 and shutter speed 1/30s. The light was from a setting sun though a window.

Could you give comments on
- what about the composition?
- the DOF?
- and what do you think?

Bo_,

Great idea for a subject. If you were to take another, I wonder about moving your view to the left side, so fly points into center of photo. In this original, a little more lighted detail of fly would help. What shows now is sharp, as usual in your Macros. Good job.

In addition to Jiminy's advice on lighting, why not try a black sheet of paper as well? It wouldn't turn out very well if you don't have enough light on the fly, but if could get enough I think it'd work better than the white.

jiminyClickit - You're right the fly should look to the center - I have to redo the picture - if the fly is still there.

Jamesc359 - I think it’s a good idea with the black piece of paper - it's noted. I have thought of using a colored background - but mainly because of the white balance. My Canon powershot has some difficulties when the scene gets to "bright white" (like when I use white as background). So using a black back-ground would probably both give creative and technical advantage.
