Question Grasshopper

I took this photo a couple years back. Personally I've always liked this shot, but everybody I show it to always seems to be rather impartial.

Default Nice macro!

Nice picture Jamesc359. There can be a little bit improvements just to enhance the detail on the grasshopper. Also a tighter crop would help a bit!
Thanks for sharing it!

I think you have presented a nice shot of the grasshopper. Do you recall if the lighting was from an off-camera flash? Other than looking just a tad hot on my monitor, I think the sharpness is excellent.

Thanks guys.

oriolhdz, the grasshopper actually lost a lot of his detail when I downsized the image. The original has a lot more detail. I'll see if I can find it so I can crop it down better.

clockdoc, yes actually I remember the lighting very clear that day. I didn't use any kind of flash, the sun was the only light source. It was a very bright late afternoon. The EXIF tag says it was 5:45pm. I believe the sun was above and slightly behind me at the time.

You might want to consider:

1. Cropping to "zoom in" on the grasshopper - if the original shot is more detailed then this is definitely a way forward.

2. Darkening the background a bit. With the leaves so bright, the grasshopper is reasonably well camouflaged against them. That is nature's intention but you could do a bit of post-processing to make him stand out more.

Smile grosshopper

mr james' view reg the photograph is that people always remained impartial. i feel this is a work of art and a thing for appreciation and with a wonderful sharpness, he is to be congratulated that his effort had succeeded to a great extent. i felt very happy to view the grosshoper tobe immortalised. thanks.

Thanks for the input and kind words.

I found the original and cropped it down quite a bit, hopefully I've left enough space in front of the grasshopper. I didn't know how much I darker I should make it, so I didn't darken it to much. Perhaps I should make it darker?

Jamesc359,

It would be up to you to decide the final level of darkness. For a comparison, the link shows a photo taken just before sunset, at an angle, and left as dark as it appeared then:
