Default The Bakery

Was walking back from getting my hair cut today and popped into a new bakery on my street... I was on the phone as I walked in, and stopped in the doorway as I saw the owner taking some pics with a little handycam... He stopped, I got off of my call and he asked if I had a wide lens (I had the 10-22mm on) ...I said I had and he asked if I might take a shot of his counter for him... there was lots of reflective light but I did what I could with it... Anyway, he loved it and asked if I'd take more for him - popped home and got my 50mm and came up with the following (one below and small set HERE in flickR) ...Which ones should I give him?.. hell.. how many should I give him!?.. eeek...

Anyways, what do you think of this bread shot?

Sime,

The cookies on the baking sheet with the spatula is a clear baking image. While this bread loaf is almost wafting "mmmmm" out of the monitor, the shadow is a little ominous. Just distracting enough to push me towards the cookies. If bread was forward of shadow, maybe better? (Are you bartering for goodies?)

Hi Sime:
Detail and sharp is great. Composition is nicely done too, but I must agree with JC. That shadow distracts a little bit. Maybe you can go for another cup of cofee and take another shot! hehehe.
BTW, I saw your set on flickr and I must admit they are pretty cool photos. That sandwich make get hungry just the same sencond I saw it!
About your question, I don't know which ones or how many you should give him, but any of it worths your work!

Aw thanks!... [reaches for coffee] if he doesn't like them, i'll maybe go back one evening and light some myself... I just sortof liked and hated the natural light that was in there all at once (I used flash on only a couple)

Mmmm, all of it makes me hungry. I especially like the coffee cup in front of the window.

You didn't arrange a deal before hand? ... I guess the answer to your question depends upon what he's going to do with them (?), how many he expects to get from you, and most importantly what he's willing to give in return. I'd hope you'd get more than a cup of coffee for your efforts! lol

But since you didn't have a deal set in stone, I'd imagine your free to give him how many ever you want.

Sime,

Also the lone cup is attractive because of background, simplicity, lighting. Set has the variety of your 365. Good experience. Will he be hanging the work in his shop?

jC | I'd love to see him hang one or two of them in his shop... that'd be VERY cool... they were all a little sortof "off the cuff" I get very nervous and start to stop thinking, if that makes sense?...

Jamesc359 | no, it was a "walk in - oh you have a camera - take some shots - I like those - take more" kinda thing.. so i'm not sure what he wants them for or how many he wants. i'll take them across tomorrow on my laptop (he's right across the road) and see what he likes...

thank you both for your feedback!.. s

i very much like the texture you have in the bread.....the shadow doesn't even bother me because it seems to reflect your more graphic style of composing...that plate full of cookies half hidden in the dark leaves me feeling odd, though....trouble is i can't say what exactly i would do to that area.....i almost wish it had a secondary light source over it.....

then again, you can't stage everything.....

i enjoyed browsing through your bakery set.......very nice work....

*shrug* i say you give him all the shots you are happy with, and let him decide what he likes... i really like the set you posted, but i would choose a different favorite depending on if i wanted art for the wall or pictures for the menu. maybe after looking at the shots you took, he will have some ideas for additional pics.
