Default One other shot from my first TFCD shoot.

Here is one other shot I liked from the shoot yesterday. I'm primarily looking for critiquing on the posing, but other stuff is fine too.

(Did I amputate her wrist?)

If you get bored and want to take a quick look at the others that I uploaded to my Flickr, feel free to and give me a generalized statement about them here.

Well, I am certainly no expert, but here goes.

That "sprite" of a plant just to the right of here head is killing this shot for me.

Aside from that, the pose looks uncomfortable, angled back, head tilted accentuates a stomach, not something even the thinnest of models want to do.

You may also want to try a large simple white reflector (foam core board is fine) in front, to bounce a little light into/under the chin.

It also looks like the focus is a bit off spot, as those eyelashes should be crystal clear/sharp. The DOF is a little to much for my liking.
Without the EXIF info, I can't tell what it done at, but I am going to guess around f/5 at around 1/60.

Most importantly, keep shooting! You certainly are on the right path.

Good:
She seems comfortable and confident with you
DOF is just right

Bad:
Me thinks its underexposed
Stance seems to make her back slouch a bit

Nicely exposed. I'd like to hear more about how you lit this portrait. I viewed your flickr images and feel you are on the right track. You model just needs to feel a little more relaxed which will come with time. When one supports their body with their arms, most of the time it will cause them to look uncomfortable and off balance. Try poses where the arms are not supporting the mass of the body. She has a pretty smile and should show it more often. Cutting off limbs is not flattering in portraiture. The background plant pattern is competing with the model for attention. Perhaps moving the camera position could have avoided it. Good start. Keep shooting. I'll be happy to help where I can.

Good call on the plant guys. I totally agree. The slight slouching I see now too.

Joe, as for the EXIF data...I need to check up on a thread I rember here where it says how to preserve it when exporting for editing from Lightroom to Photoshop. I seem to have changed a setting and messed it up. Good guess too. The photo was taken at 1/60 @ f/4.5. Would the blurry eyelashes be the result of the slowish shutter speed and the fact that I was hand held or is my focus off?

Clocdoc, the lighting was actually just the on camera flash on my XTi. Hopefully I'll get a flash unit soon. Anyways, I just set it to -1/3 on my exposure compensation. I was using a reflector for a car as reflector, but don't think I used it in this shot.
