The other day I posted an angry spider - where I got some hints to improve the picture. The angry spider was a bit over-exposed and the background was distracting. I wanted to improve - but for a few days the weather changed - a lot of wind - and no spider!! But today the weather has improved and the spider came back - so I wanted to try something new.
First I took my tripod and a piece of paper! The sun was setting and I placed my self in front of the spider - and changed the exposure bias to 1/3 EV. Hit the super macro button on my powershot s3is and held the white paper behind the spider (thanx for the hint clockdoc). I found that to get a good picture I had to keep the paper in an angle so that it was in the shadow. When the background was a bright white - the spider got all black in the picture( ).And because I did not hit the spider with my lens - this time - it did not get angry but was peaceful all the time. This I think is a very important lesson when taking portraits !I used an aperture of 3.5/f and a ISO:100 which gave me a shutterspeed 1/200s. What do you think - is this spider better (more peaceful)? Is it underexposed (to dark)?

Well, the spider is nice!! I like the colours and texture. But it would look nicer if the spiderweb was also visible.

Bo - i cannot believe i'm looking at this pic... you are in Denmark????
these spiders are literally EVERYWHERE in my town (Lowell, Mass.) and i have a giant one living outside my bedroom window. but i have no idea what kind it is. I can't find it in ANY book or website on north american spiders... it has been driving me CRAZY!! can you identify this mysterious arachnid? i'm thinking now that it's an introduced species here in the U.S. incidentally, i have been trying to get a good shot of one, but haven't been successful. so thanks!!

Eradicator, Try this site, http://whatsthatbug.com They can identify the bug/spider for you by your description and picture. Maybe an Orb weaver or Garden spider good luck, they look scary!
