i'm such a newbie, i'm no source for technical advice, but i like the photo...and it makes me want to see another photo, of the boats, closer up , with the boats as the main subject. it looks like they have some interesting colors.

At first I couldn't put my finger on what was bothering me about the shot but clockdoc nailed it. There's just too much going on. Perhaps a different vantage point or focal distance might have changed what was in the scene.
Nice subjects, I just think you need to narrow down the one you want to focus on.

If you decide you need to take another holiday, then you could also spend a whole day round there, watching how the light affects things. For example, perhaps earlier or later it would stream from the cove, over the boats and onto the end of the buildings (at the time you took it, it hits the side of the buildings instead).

I like the shot but not the boats. I would crop them right off the bottom if you could get a pleasing look. Maybe just above the roof of the red building on the far left? It may not look right. The green on that hill side is great though.
I do absolutely agree with Wolf though, I find the light is best in the morning and evening. There is a 6-7 hour window in the summers here in New England that makes everything looks so harsh. Maybe an hour or so before sunset run back and try to frame in that hillside. I don't know what part of the world that was in but if they have a fall where the leaves change colors well that, during the evening, would probably look very striking. Robert
