Denethor, Welcome

That's grand architecture and a fine spot for photos. Probably a later or earlier part of the day would lend the flat surfaces a better tonal range and light the archways and detail work on the building faces. Also, as in a standing full portrait, you would try to get the feet included, so should the entire ladder (or stairs) be included. Interesting angle, and basically a good shot, just some things to consider for the next one.

Thank you for the comment!

If only it was always possible to wait for another time of day!

Does "tonal range" = "local contrast"? Could it be enhanced using, e.g., Photoshop?

Denethor,

Tonal range (variety of hues) beyond the brighter whites and grays of a high sun can come out when the Sun's more deflected, and filtered through the atmosphere. Timing can be everything, at least for lighting. You could get a better range in an edit. Most of the colors are there, just need a little coaxing to come out.

I agree with Jiminy's assessment. I also respect that this may have been the only time you were able to be in this location. However, when you look at the works of great outdoor photographers, you can be assured that they were not "one shot wonders." To get that "perfect" shot requires us to reshoot, often many times, and in many different lighting situations.
