Default Grand Canyon Rock at sunset

I took this during my last vacation at the Grand Canyon. The colors of the rock caught my attention while photographing the GC.

HSM,

Welcome to the forum. I like the shot and the warm tone on the surface of rock as well as on tree. Only thing which bothers me is black hole around the rock!

HSM, welcome.

I like it!! The colours are lovely. I think it might look nicer if the horizon was a bit higher in the frame, though.

I love the way the sky has come out...
I would have cloned the tree on the left...distraction...the hole in the rock is fine!

Yes I've thought about reducing the background clutter in photoshop but just figured to post as I took it. Thanks for your feedback. HSM

Pala,
I'm not sure if you mean the hole on top of the rock or the darkness surrounding the rock. I think the smallness of the pic makes the darkness more prevailant than in a larger view...see a larger view.

HSM,

I mean the darkness surrounding the rock, I suspect a lower angle could have minimized it!!

You have presented a nice shot that would probably have been a good candidate for High Dynamic Range (HDR) treatment. You have a wide range of tones in just the rock and while more detail may be present in a printed version, on my monitor the right side of the rock has lost all shadow detail. I suspect this was a scene that looked much better to your eye as you were taking it. Good eye for picking up on the way light played off the surface of the rock providing texture and those rich warm colors.
