Default Can anyone tell me

What kind of flower this is?

I shot this in the morning with my tubes and adjusted the colors a little. There is no crop to the photo.

No idea what flower it is.

The shot looks good, except that it's a bit dark.

Yea, a little underexposed. Try bumping up the exposure a little bit, and maybe next time using a diffused flash. Also, can you post the EXIF with the photo?

It could be a yellow Aster but it is hard to tell just from the close up - I'm only suggesting that since I took a shot of a similar flower recently.

I think the picture would benefit from more light - you can't really afford a shallower depth of field so it has to be a slower shutter speed or adding external illumination (although being aware of the highlights you will get in the water drops). Personally, I would probably also want to move the centre of the flower away from the centre of the picture, down and to the left (... yes... my picture is not a perfect example of positioning either ;-) ).

Here is the new rendition of the flower. I lightened it up a bit, but not enough to blow out the highlights. Both versions were also sharpened a little.

Exif is: 1/80, iso 400, tubes.

It is definitely better for being brighter. What do you think of the idea of cropping it down a bit to move the flower centre away from the frame centre?

Wulf,

I've looked at it, and thought about it, and did the manual crop with 2 small sheets of paper, and I like the shot the way it is. To me, cropping the center out of the center takes away from the flower. Maybe if I had more of the flower to work with, I'd take the center out of the center. I don't, so I'm not going to.

Consider it me breaking the rules.

Your photo - your call. I wasn't thinking a drastic more though - just a small reduction to the bottom and left to reduce the blurred area in the bottom left corner.

Since you like the edit you have, this is unnecessary, unless you like the extra richness in the center, in which case I would say it comes from adding a high-contrast and saturated layer at 50% opacity, overlay mode.
