Default September evening

September evening

Shot this picture close to sundown. It's not like it is science to shot great pictures of the sky as it often looks great, but I particularly liked the way the sun lighted up part of the sky this time. So far my only regret is not spending money on a polarizing filter, as I think it would have given this shot more contrast and more deep blue colors in the top part of the shot. Let me know what you think.

Hi Revald,
You have captured a very interesting lighting effect with the clouds. However I would not be too quick to assume that a polarizing filter would give you the results to are looking for in your mind's eye. Polarizing filters work best at 90 degrees for the position of the sun so if you are shooting close to the sunset angle, the polarizer may not darken the sky as much. The rule of thumb is to point your finger at the sun and then , with your thumb extended upward, rotate the thumb around the pointing finger's axis. The direction in which the thumb points will provide the greatest sky darkening effect using a polarizer.

I agree with clockdoc, this is not a polarising filter issue, the colours are nice but as a person not present on spot, I would have liked more light on the clouds. I would like to look at the light gradually increasing from the top right and intensifying on the left on top of the clouds, making it a focal point.

I love the colour that sunlight paints on clouds, you have good eyes. I would like to see more such photographs from you.
