I like the crunchiness of the look, but the background seems to busy to me. It distracts my eye from the cool flower petals. Maybe blur the background some?

Better. You might try to find only one flower at a time with low light. You get the great flower on black effect. If you do that, you get a really powerful effect like this.



This was in my backyard at around 5 PM. No tricks.

Hi Todd. While I commend you for trying something different with the black and white effect on the flower, to my eye it is, IMHO, a bit busy and distracting. By comparison, the flower baseballboy828 provided works better as a monochrome in this case. Thanks for sharing your work with us as this is how we all can learn more.

Black and white is my favorite as it is so simple and has such honesty. So it is to my findings that with the b & W simplicity works the ebst witht his type of shot.
