Default Water lilies

Here be my first posted image here. This was shot recently at Nymph Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park, with my Nikon D200. It was taken in NEF RAW, wasn't cropped, but I brightened it up a tad, and slightly increased the saturation.

It appears overcropped. You are starting to lose image definition.

Yes, some definition has been lost. I believe it is because the image has been scaled down resolutionwise for easy sending on the net, since the original image was never cropped. I have a print of this image 36" wide, that is clear as a bell. Some things seem to be lost in transmission over the web. If you or anyone else can lead me in the right direction to sending crisper images to forums like this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Neat shot - I like it!

I use Flickr for posting my photos to the web. I upload the originals (though only allow contacts to access the full size), then Flickr resizes the photos into various sizes suitable for the web. The "medium" size works well for posting in forums, and it doesn't seem to degrade the image quality.

I'm going to sign up with Flickr. I'd heard of it, but have been using Image Shack for a long time.

It has been my experience that if an online service is allowed to resize a photo, they do a lousy job. It is never as clear as the original. To solve that problem I always upload at the size required by the forum. I will resize to, for example, 700 pixels on the longest side, sharpen it a little to correct the normal degradation do to resizing (which the host does not do) and then upload. If the host doesn’t have to do anything to the photo, it will appear on the forum as clear and crisp as it did when it left your computer.

Hi and welcome to the group. I have been offline for about a month helping to care for an elderly family member so it is good to be back viewing others work. I like the way you lead into the shot from the left with the fallen tree. Your eye stops at the bright yellow flower and that helps keep the viewer's eye within the frame. I'd appreciate hearing your opinion on your Nikon D200 and the lenses you use. Thanks for sharing your work with us.
