I originally spotted this little guy looking something like a squid, gliding effortlessly along his near-invisible silk thread, to the leaf. Then he hid on the underside of the leaf, where all I could see was the very tip of a leg poking out from behind the leaf.
That wasn't going to work, so I wandered around the bush until I found a vantage point where I could see him, and wouldn't you know, he had himself squashed up nearly flat against the leaf. A very, VERY light tap on the leaf later, and I was rewarded with this: ![]() Now, I know things that could make this better: the spider could be more in focus, for one, and exposure could be better, for two. For some odd reason, I was having a heck of a time focusing this afternoon (must be the far too many days I've spent indoors of late). I thought about cropping closer to the spider, but I actually like how the branch looks, coming out of the corner of the photo, gently drifting downwards. The spider comes off almost as an added bonus. The image was cropped on the left, and on the bottom, to get rid of excess dead space (and maybe it's a little too tight on the bottom), but the composition & framing is exactly as I had it in the original.

I thought the hunt for the spider fit well with the title, particularly since it wanted to make me hunt for it just to take the photo ![]() I've been sticking with f/5.6, for the most part, but I need to break myself of that for some of the other images (like the dragonfly photo I took today - the wings are great, but the head of the poor little guy is just fuzzy).

Composition is a mater of perception, but, the heading suits the shot so well, the game of light and shade and a camouflaged spider (thanks for pointing out), truely justifies the name.

Thank you! I think that's the nicest compliment my eyes have ever gotten
![]() I kinda stole the idea for the new avatar from ELAY I, too, am doing the threesixtyfive challenge, and that was my day 4 picture - cleaned up a bit in photoshop to remove the stray pieces of hair from in front of my eye.
