Did you use the on camera flash or a hot shoe flash direct? This would have worked better with a hot shoe flash with a big diffuser such as the gary fong lightsphere. A side angle would also be possibly more interesting. The head on view doesn't add much to the shot. If you answer the questions above I can probably help you more with the shot.

it was taken with my point and shoot camera with the standard flash. I'm fairly new to photography so can you tell me what lightsphere is?

In my brief, poor experience, I would say to back up a little bit. The facial feature I exaggerated in the manner that wide angle lens may do. This causes some features to be emphasized that may not be ideal. Good idea to go Black and White tho... Happy Shooting!

It's a flash diffuser for hot shoe flashes. It's spreads light out. Can anyone recommend a Point and shoot flash diffuser?
