did you use the flash for that picture? looks to bright to me... you should cut out a piece for aluminum foil and put it in front of the flash makes a more natural light, just try to tweek it out a little

I like the composition but I think I'd prefer it without the hand.

dloumakis,

If you really want to keep the hand as part of composition, having it come out of a shadow area would help lessen its impact, which is strong as it is. Bear and tea seem more important to focus on.

Thanks to all for the info and feedback. This was not a planned photo, I just thought it was cute and grabbed the camera, I think I had I had it on full auto. Now I wish I had taken my time and worked with it a little. I did like the color's and composition, even if I didn't I dare not mess with the tea party guest :-)

Thanks for the tip on the flash, I am going to experiment with that.

Jiminy, thanks for the "hand" imput. I often put little hands and little feet in my photos, I guess it's a personal thing and not always appropriate for the composition of the photo. I noticed one thing I am learning from this site is to think MORE about the technical standpoint of the shot before I take it. Not an easy task for me, I think I have always been and impulsive snapper :-)

dloumakis,

Study much, practice as much as possible, and you can impulsively snap a technically fine photo.

Hi and thanks for posting your work. You have a good idea here and have received some great advice on how to make it even better. In addition to being a student of photography, being student of light is just as important. Try your same setup but experiment with different light sources and directions of light and I think you will see some very interesting results. Can you tell us a little about how this shot was set up and the lighting you used?

Jiminy, Thanks for the advice. I am working toward that goal.

Clockdoc,
The kids were having a tea party and as I said to Jiminy it was a pretty impulsive shot. I did turn on a high overhead light because it gave me the reflection and I used the flash, which was a little to glaring. I looked at several angles but chose this one for simplicity, lack of clutter......the tripod would have been a good idea but by the time I sat it up the kids would have had a mess with the cookies and tea. I should have taken some after shots :-) (of the mess)!! I may try to recreate this and play with the lighting. Thanks for the advice!!
