Default Greetings... and Seagulls

Hey all
I'm new to this site and pretty new to photography as well

I have a Sony DSC-H2 which I've had for about 9 months now, I'm pretty happy with it but have sort of outgrown it as i have learned more photography skills and have discovered the H2's limitations, but don't get me wrong, I think it's a great camera, especially for a beginner wanting a little more out of their camera than simple point and shoot

Anyway... I was just going through some of the photos i took when i first got it and found one i really quite like. I took this in January, the first day i went out with my new camera, as it was the first time i had used it, the whole day i had it almost exclusively on Auto setting (like i said it was my first day). but even so i took some OK shots IMO and heres one of some seagulls at Circular Quay in Sydney.

seagulls

The thing i like most about it is the look of the water, looks nice and silky.
What i don;t like is the blur of the 2 flying seagulls, though sometimes i quite like the blur

I have cropped this as my composition was pretty poor
so thats it, i like this site looks great and am hoping to learn a few things here too, please comment on my seagulls

thanks, Brave_Ulysses

Brave_Ulysses,

Welcome to the forum. I am also using Sone DSC-H2 from past 1 year. If you are beginer to use your camera manual settings here is the link to learn some basic stuffs: http://www.aakatz.com/whitepaper/

IMO blur in this shot feels sort of Action. If you want to avoid that, swith to shutter speed priority and select MAX shutter speed (1/1000sec).

The composition may look good if there is some focal point. For me this seems too much busy with two birds at flight, group of birds, and the water.

How about considering the group of bird with the bird in action which is joining the group?

A simple crop to your work, If you object, let me know and I will remove it immediately!!
