Default My lil man

lookingout
I love him looking out this window but have not quite gotten the perfect shot. I would love to know what I can do to improve this type of shot. Any input would be great.

You probably should reduce the difference in lighting between the side of his face directed to the window and the shadow side. Some ways of doing this:

1) Wait for an overcast day so that lighting coming from the window is more gentle

2) Try to get the exposure right for the highlighted side and see if the shadow side gets too dark

3) If the contrast between light and shadow is too much for your camera (either highlights gets blown or shadows have too little detail), try compensating using a simple reflector (a white piece of cardboard) to bounce light from the window back to his face.

On a composition note: I would try to remove the chair just outside the window.

Hope this helps ...

Val1064, Welcome

With a smaller aperture, you may also blur outside background and get a good reflection in the window (there now, just mixed in with yard detail). Good composition.

Thank you! I will try to reduce my aperture and see how that does. I did move the chair. I will also work on the lighting a bit more. I really appreciate your input.

...with a larger aperture actually... (smaller number = bigger aperture)
