Hi. I was searching through some older posts as we have been offline for a month helping care for my wife's 97 year old step dad who fell and broke his leg. I like your shoe composition for several reasons. First is its simplicity! Monochrome works best here. I am a big fan of monochrome images as I feel we sometime tend to rely too much on color to "make" our images. Last, I like the play of lines that make up the background and base of your image. You really took on quite a challenge of tonal range shooting both black leather and white shoes but succeeded quite well! I look forward to seeing some photos of the new baby. I'll be happy to help with your photo questions in any way I can.

DrEm,
If you consider that "things" can have faces and may be said to be looking in certain directions, your photo has the baby shoes looking out of the frame and opposite Dad's. If you compare a shot with baby's pointing down and left, it is more harmonious. Nice shot, concept.
