Default Moon reflection over lake superior

Tripod with 20 second shutter. ISO 200 w/ noise reduction. Photoshoped some a few leaves out and bumped the contrast a smidge

very nice reflections. The little highlights on the rocks are what I like most of all.

It looks like a night time sun. Very interesting. The reflection on the water is overexposed though and has lost the detail of the waves.

I agree, the rocky area is the most interesting part of the photo.

as what they said it looks like a sun than a moon and the light on the lower left is kinda distracting to me, but all in all its a nice shot. i like it.

I've been wondering if you stacked a couple of ND filters, perhaps one normal ND filter for the whole scene, and then a graduated ND on top to take the light level of the moon down some more you may be able to get better exposure in scenes like this. Haven't tried it yet, but would like to give it a go. If anyone else tries it before I do, do let me know how you get on!

If you can use them for sunsets, you should be able to use them on the moon

Cheers Gav

superhero,

With my simple Fuji camera, the lowest I can go in exposure time is two seconds, and I get pretty good detail in the moon. Try Search above for threads on photographing the Moon, it's worth the time and you'll be surprised at the difference when you don't overexpose.
