Really sweet. I like the composition.
IMO It would be more powerful if his mother's eye lids are open and looking at him!

keritho,
Sometimes it's just the fraction-of-a-second difference in where everyone is, that improves a photo. At some point the Sun was probably not hitting Mom's nose as brightly as this, and would have caused less distracting whiteout. That can be fixed, and is just one more thing to watch for in the viewfinder. The difference in face angles is well chosen, nicely done.

You see, that is why I am loving this place! I could stare at a photo for hours, and still not know 'what is wrong' or what could be improved. JiminyClickit--I would never have thought to look for that difference in the sun next time, and Palachandra (hope i spelled that right), the eyes of the mother actually were open, but this is the second time something has been mentioned to me about seeing open eyes...so it seems to be something i need to look out for.
just more to put into my memory banks! ![]() also JC (I have noticed other people call you that--hope it's okay), I am so glad you said something about the face angles, because, in all my ignorance, that is one of the things i like best about this photo, i felt like the angle of the mother's face, and of her gaze drew you to my nephew's face, which was the focal point, and woo hooo! looks like i was right...

keritho,
Your eyes will pick up things we may not see in our own photos, too. It's the nature of being the creator, the image in your mind may be stronger than what's really there. Your instincts are good. jC

jiminyClickit--Yes, i learned I have to be careful that my photos really do portray to other people what they portray to me clearly. for example...in my other photo Temper Tantrum, some people could not see the connection between the photo and the name. Upon further thought, I realized, it really was only clear to me, because I was there, I saw her throw the fit, and then glare back at me, but, her gaze is not really so obviously a fit, and so that was a good learning example for me....to try to look at just the photo objectively and try to see what the photo itself clearly portrays to someone trying to read a story just from it.

keritho,
As often as possible, I'll look at the photo only here, ignoring the written description. Then I'll see how the words fit what I've seen. Try that for your next hour or so on DPS, discover how sometimes there is a lot of fantasy going on, but it doesn't always make it to the camera sensor. I liked "Tantrum" but at first didn't connect with the title. After focussing in on the eyes, the emotion was there. You've found one very important step in good photography: Visual Communication, whether it's photos, paintings, collage, all the best have a good story behind them, around them, in them.
