Default Power Lines

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and I was just wondering if anyone can give me any advice on my photos.

happilyinvisible, Welcome

As a graphic, this would be stronger without the treetop bottom left. As a landscape, you need more of the tree and some land. As a photo of power lines . . . the sky is subtly beautiful. Now, if only all those wires weren't in the way.

Hi happilyinvisible and welcome to the group. I agree with Jiminy's comments. I am sure you saw something in your mind's eye that did not have the distractions that showed up in the final image. In cases like this sometimes it is better to move in closer to eliminate as many distracting elements as possible and concentrate on some abstract compositions. Thanks for sharing your work with us. I'll be happy to help where I can. Keep shooting!

Happily,

I think maybe you meant to capture those lines no? In any case, it is a hard/difficult first type of picture. Thin lines, at such angles, combined with the low light, really present a challenge to some cameras.

Having said that, keep trying. I would have also tried this shot. I would have liked that color in the sky, and the dark silhouette of the lines and the tower. You are thinking composition which is a good thing because there are plenty of shots I see where folks have forgotten to think through the compositional elements. Mostly because we are all so caught in the action or subject we want to capture!

Good luck, and all the best,

Scampi
