Default Black orchid

Olypus E500, 35mm, f/8,1/80.iso 400. An orchid I shot in my kitchen and then coverted to black and white using curves and desaturation. I added a tiny hint of purple to the petal. My b & w's have been pretty hum drum so am trying to add more pozzaz to them. Thoughts?

I like the hint of purple, but my eyes go to the darkest part of the flower. I think lighting the darker area, (give it some gray tones) might help. Unless you are going for the sharp contrast. Just a thought.

windrider86,

Upper left and right corners' white bits, just not helping or serving a purpose. Taking white background down to a gray tone below your center, and bumping center area (around purple tint) up a little would give attention back to your eye-catching edit.

I like this shot, but if it were mine, I'd lose enough of the top to eliminate the white corners. They de-focus the shot and attract too much attention. You could easily crop without losing anything vital. The velvety blackness should lead the eye to the hint of purple and the delicate texture therein.
