Welcome to the forum. Who said you can not learn geography on a photography forum? Lol... I took the liberty to play with your photo in photoshop. Hope you like it. Just made some leves, curves, saturation and burn things on separate layers. Thanks for sharing your picture! And for the geographical lesson too!! XD

Hi,
Amazing picture. Strictly speaking the Carcross Desert is not really a desert, but a set of sand dunes over a 1 square mile area.
