Default Hi all, any help?

I took this photo on a very exciting vacation to Spain. I blew up the contrast a whole lot and I really liked the goldish tint. I do feel that something is a little off though but I can't place it. Hopefully someone here can. Thanks a lot everybody!

I'm not quite sure what it is and that may be part of the problem. Also the differnece in shades within the shadows seems to be distracting for me. Perhaps if you flipped it so the square thing is more ont he left

I'm still very much a beginner, so please take this with a huge heaping of salt.

I'm thinking perhaps cropping the right side so that the square thing is right at the corner could help. I think that empty space to the right of the square thing is a bit distracting.

I think that because you know what this is you are having trouble seeing what is missing ,not knowing what the subject is ,confuses me ,and this may be the problem ,no clear subject . maybe if you tell us what it is we would be of more help , it does look interesting ,and i would like to know what it is .

i'm guessing it's a fountain of sorts....

and i rather like it.....as a matter of fact, when i went to see it bigger at flickr, there were more enviable shots you took in spain....

if there was anything to criticize, i'd have to agree with you it's in the cropping....i just haven't a clue what to offer as to where....

nice shot...

I'd say your problem is that shadow that cuts across the dish-looking part of the photo.

While quite striking, with interesting definition, I think that for this shot it is too strong. Your main subject I think is the dish-thing, and the shadow here interrupts the flow and rhythm of the ribs on the dish thing. All sun or all shadow might have worked better.

Hi everybody,

thanks for all the advice, peeperita is right, it actually is a fountain (by the way, thank you for the compliment on my other photos, means a lot considering this is my first big post here)

I still have the unedited version, so I can definitely bring down the shadows a bit, although I'm not sure I can do anything about that big one cutting across the middle. and the cropping suggestion is great, I'll get on it.

It's about midnight here so if you're still with me, I'll put a new edited one up tomorrow morning. Thanks for everything you guys!

I very much like the crispness of it all. However, as others have said we don't really know what the subject is. Next time, I suggest you either zoom out or take some steps back if you have a prime lens so we can see more of the subject.

The colors look great.

Default The Edited One

Here is an edited version. Sorry I couldn't get it up this morning, some things came up. I lowered the contrast, but I tried not to lose the gold and I cut the empty space off in the corner. If there are any more changes that should be felt or if you guys think it's as good as it's gonna get, tell me what you think! Thanks so much for the help

I find this photo works best for me as an abstract as I have never seen the image first hand & did not know what it was . as an abstract i find the square in the right corner distracting .I hope you don't mind I played with it as I find the golden color & lines to be beatiful , and without the square there is nothing to distract from the beauty of this photo as an abstract . I , croped & played with the contrast to bring out the golden tones ,and did a composite .
