Default Close-Up Lens Kit Test Shot

I went into my local camera store to grab a replacement lens cap for one I lost and came out with a close-up lens kit as well. Stacked them all up together (+7) and fired off a few shots to see what they could bring to my macro shots.

DSC03445
EXIF:
SONY DSLR-A100: 0.005s 1/200 f/18 ISO 100
LENS: SONY 75mm-300mm@75mm
FILTERS: +7 (+1&+2&+4) Close-Up Lens
Full Size Image: Warning! Image is 2.5 Mb

There seems to be a fair few chromatic aberrations out on the edges as well as some evidence of the filter height in the corners of the image. The center seems to be clear enough apart from the unavoidable DoF problems.

porterd2nz,

Why I do not set foot inside camera shops. I'm still in the fascination stage of Macro so any aberrations go mostly unnoticed. The DoF can be adjusted for, leaving the question of white balance (I still notice that) and the yellow hue, both seem dim, also fixable. Do you have a giant mental list of things you want to biggify?

I was very good. They just had a job lot of Minolta lenses to sell on behalf of a deceased estate. I gave back a very nice 50mm Macro lens. Mind you I already have the 100mm Macro, so I don't really need another... Yet!

I specifically went looking for problems, since everything I've read about these lens sets says they are there.

Yes. And it is growing...

What got me really going was this photo set on flickr by Chuck Ulmer. Especially the Dragon II image!
