Default Wonder

Let me explain this photo a little. The reason for the vast amount of the photo being the lake is to give a sense a space, great amounts of it while the child looks out upon it with a wonder-filled imagination. I can't comprehend such quantities of water, let alone this cute little guy. I bet his imagination was just running wild. Critique please?

Composition-wise, the shot is marvelous. I love the idea of trying to guess what's going through the boy's mind... Showing a vast amount of water in the shot enhances that.

The image doesn't look very sharp, though. It almost looks painted. I don't know if that was your intention, but I might try to sharpen it a bit.

The lack of sharpness looks like a depth of field problem. When shooting something like this where you want to show a lot of things in focus, be it landscape or something like this with human and nature, you might want to use a smaller aperture to increase the depth of field. I think it would have made this shot more powerful.

I agree that sharper would probably have been better. However, since it is now after the fact, it might be worth experimenting with making the "painterly" qualities look like a more deliberate feature

Default To him above...

I tihnk that the first crop was better, but agree with Wulf, make this look surreal, and play the shallow depth of field to your advantage... UNless that boy belongs to you and you live near that beach... Then just reshoot!

Haha, no. I don't know the kid. Heck, I'm only 16! Thanks for the heads up, though. Smaller aperture = F22 and Larger = F4 right? I was at F4.6 so that might explain the blurriness.
