Default Daughters senior pics

I have 3 kids and have done all of their Sr. pictures. They seemed happy with them so that's all that really mattered. Just thought since I was new here I'd put myself up for a little critiquing....so here you go !!!

The sky doesn't really help. A sunny day with a blue sky may have worked better, with a bit of fill flash. The branches in the background are a little distracting too. Perhaps a wider aperture could have thrown them out of focus?

The angle is interesting though, and the model's pose and expression work well.

The colors are in need of photoshopping. The sky adds nothing. You should only really use the sky in a photo if it adds something. Also, certain areas are dark, such as the face and its periphery. The pose and expression are primo, though.

Ah... finally a "Critique My Photo" in my genre!

Keeping in mind that all photographers have a different style, here are the first few things that pop out at me (all mistakes I've made myself and gotten critiqued on):

#1: You cut her off at the ankles which, to most photographers, is quite the faux pas. Try to avoid chopping people off at their joints.

#2: I'm okay with the overcast sky but she needs to be better lit to compensate. Overcast skies usually help with outdoor portrait photographs so you were on the right track. Maybe a reflector or a fill flash to brighten her face up would be enough?

#3: I think I'd mess with the saturation of the branches a bit to make the green pop out. Since they're not blurred enough to blend into the background, might as well make a statement with them. Then maybe adjust the brightness a bit because the whole shot looks a bit dreary and dark.

#4: I'm actually not too kean on the pose because it's not very flattering. Makes her legs look much wider than they probably are and as a female myself, I know how sensitive we can be about our legs looking fat... LOL I personally think it would look better cropped to be a waist-up shot for this reason. Now if you had her feet in there, I might feel a bit different. Cute shoes can do wonders for a portrait

Now for the good comments... I like her expression. Captures good amounts of personality! This is a unique shot idea and not what most people would expect to see in a standard senior portrait, so kudos for your creativity! Keep up the good work. I'd like to see more of what you shot!
