Default Diya (light)

Diya is a lamp made usually of clay/brass, with wick made of cotton and dipped in ghee or vegetable oils. Clay diyas are temporary and are used for special occasions, while diyas made of brass are permanent fixtures in homes and temples. The Indian light festival Diwali is traditionally lit up by huge numbers of Diyas.

I had to shoot one for a CD cover, i would like any feedback i can get before i give the final image to the client.

Diya

Will post the CD cover later. Thanks in advance!

I can't critique it because I really like it. I love the reflection of the brass and the glow of the light on the metal and the wood. I also like the DOF with the subtle blurring of the brass design in the background. The focus really brings out the rawness of the metalwork as well. I'm poor at critiquing composition, but I know what I like here.

kunaldaswani,

If you raise your speed some and get a darker flame, the colors will be yellow, orange, red, blue, purple. Just a more colorful flame, it can be added to your shot here.

Depending on where title of CD goes, the flame seems close to top. We are going for a square cover, yes?

Yes Mr.J, It will be a square cover. Where the title goes is up to the designer at the record label. My job is to take a nice/decent picture. Tried faster shots, but then loose the reflection and highlights.

kunaldaswani,

Yes you will lose the good things. So all you save is the flame part (you know how sometimes I use an edit program to change a part of a photo?). Stick the colorful flame over the other one and there you have it. Since your client likes it, this is just for information.
