Default Boat to land

I know nothing about photographing things, I point and shoot with my Sony DSC-P92. I've come here to learn about taking pictures. I don't even know if this camera is good enough, but looking at other images taken with the camera, it is capable of doing some nice stuff.

The quality of the image is great.

Just some composition issues.

First your horizon is crooked.

Crop most of the sky out as it really doesn't need to be there in that capacity and it will also take your horizon line away from the middle of the shot.

Some saturation couldn't hurt.

Good attempt nevertheless.

Any camera is good enough. It's the photographer that takes the pictures, not the camera. Sage gave you some good critique. If you need to straighten the horizon and don't have a post processing system, you can download http://picasa.google.com/ for free. It will let you do simple fixes on your shots, including straightening your horizon.

Hm, nice. I hope to spend some time on this forum and really learn some things, I'm really interested in photography.

I got picasa, and I like it. I don't know if I did the editing of the horizon right though!

Evan,

You asked earlier about the importance of getting the horizon level; which of these is more pleasing to you?

I'm looking at these and I think it does in fact look better straight, but I was wondering if having a crooked horizon could in fact be a style?

Evan,

See Henryscat on "How I Took It" forum
(Killin, Scotland - Infrared)
It may be more a case of having a reason for the tilt.

Getting the horizon, wallls, and other things straight was one of the first editing task I figured out how to do, At first I got many comments about mine not being straight. Now I straighten as much as possible when they turn out that way,
