Default Spring is here... Almost!

I was playing around with the rule of thumb of f/16 in full sunlight and use 1/ISO for the exposure time. Still had a lot of trouble with over exposure of the white petals, but the dark background was a unexpected effect.

porterd2nz,

Deja vu with the Spring thing. We're looking Autumn in the face in a month.

Are the petals of these blooms naturally yellow-green? Composition is special, the interplay of petals particularly. Yellow centers have a good natural look.

By far most of my blooms are shot f/2.8, some f/5, in Sports Mode (1/250 to 1/1000sec.) after 5 PM. Almost never have to worry about highlights getting lost.

The yellow-green coloration is more noticeable in the photos than in the real flowers. Might be something in the white balance.

I'm trying to break out into manual control of my camera. The suns gone now, and I have to be at work in 20 minutes, so I won't get a chance to reshoot today. Here's one I did at the same time with slightly different settings.

porterd2nz,

The white balance would be a good place to enter the world of manual, mixed with other settings you know your camera has chosen before. Gives you a feeling of control, after which you'll risk some of your own experiments and begin the real learning curve (and the accompanying success/failure joy/pain).
