Default Dreamcatcher

The weekend I took my daughter out to the park I've been taking the majority of my photos was, IMO, a bust as far of pictures were concerned. Mostly, because my nearly-10-year-old complained (loudly) the entire time (my favorite being "Ugh! This place needs air conditioning!")

Again, I was playing with manual focus & a shallow depth of field. The few photos I managed to take were somewhat uninspiring, at least to me.

There was one photo I liked, just due to the splash of color, and, I think, to the crispness on some of the leaf edges.

But the one I keep coming back to is this one:

It's not entirely in focus (the interesting grasses seem to be located at the windiest spot on the path) - or at least, not as in focus as I'd like - and parts of it are more washed out than I'd like (and I was already at a -7 EV), but it's another one of those "something about it" photos. I know a deeper depth of field would have helped bring more of it in focus, but for some odd reason, with this particular picture, it doesn't bother me as much.

The washout, OTOH, does, but it's still (somewhat) workable.

Thumbs up

Hi velvet4269
It’s a pity that the stem is out of focus. I can see why you like so much; I find it very pleasing to look at also. I guess you could crop out the stem and see how that looks! But I’m just a novice so don’t trust a word I say!

velvet4269,

Is original big enough to rotate stem at bottom counterclockwise, so that it begins closer to center and at an interesting angle? Like about where the "2" is in 2007? Otherwise this is one view I'd be shooting, too, just because . . .

It's a little smaller, but Jiminy, was this what you meant?

P8110581sm2

I see where you're going with this, and I'm not sure which one I like better The original has a considerable amount of green space to the right (stalk was on the left), which makes for it's own interesting photo ...

velvet4269,

My imagining went this way:

DreamX

Just mostly to change that left side "parallel with frame" composition. Wish our weeds were this creative!

Wow. That's beautiful. I like it the way it is, I don't think I'd change it.

I like the original photo you have, the grass is setup just right for me. To me the out of focus stem is just fine work, to bring my attition to the "Dreamchatcher". Good work Jennifer.

Ahhh ... I see what you're saying now. Yeah, I wasn't trying for that when I took the picture, but I wasn't focusing on the stem so much

There are a bunch of other pictures of those grasses in my Flickr stream, and a few have that "interesting start angle" - where the stem is coming out of the corner of the photo, or some such.
